Associate Athletic Director and YSU's Senior Woman
Administrator Elaine Jacobs is in her 16th year with the Youngstown State athletics department
and her tenth as associate director of athletics. Jacobs was awarded additional duties
as the senior woman administrator in 2002.
In 2008, Jacobs was appointed by the NCAA to a four-year commitment
on the NCAA Legislative Council, the rules governing body of the NCAA. She is also
the Horizon League Softball Liaison and a member of YSU's Diversity Task Force.
In her capacity, Jacobs oversees the academic and eligibility requirements
for YSU student-athletes, interprets compliance issues, and monitors gender equity initiatives.
Within the department, Jacobs is the supervisor for the women’s basketball, volleyball,
softball, and the track and cross country programs, in addition to athletic training
and other administrative staff.
Prior to her current appointment, Jacobs was assistant director of
athletics at YSU from 1995-99. During that time, Jacobs was responsible for monitoring
student-athletes’ academic progress and eligibility, as well as implementing the start-up
of YSU's soccer, golf, and swimming/diving programs. From 1993-95, Jacobs was an assistant
women’s basketball coach.
Before joining the YSU athletic department, Jacobs taught at Mineral
Ridge Middle School from 1991-94. She was also head coach of varsity girls basketball
from 1989-92, girls track from 1990-91 and softball in 1992, all at her alma mater Liberty
High School.
Jacobs, who was a four-year letterwinner for the YSU softball team,
earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State in 1989 and a master’s
degree in sports administration from Kent State in 1994.
