Football: Johnson Named
SportsNetwork Player of the Week
SOUTHAMPTON, Pa. -Youngstown
State linebacker Tim Johnson
(Fairfield, Ala.)
was named The Sports Network
Division I-AA Defensive Player of
the Week due to his stellar effort
in the Penguins’ 29-20 upset of No.
7 Northern Iowa.
Johnson was a major factor in
the Youngstown State defense holding
Northern Iowa to 17 points below its
scoring average.
The junior linebacker made a
team-high 12 tackles. He also
contributed by breaking up two
passes and intercepting another. The
interception ended a late fourth
quarter drive by UNI.
This season, Johnson is second
on the team with 128 tackles, which
is second best on the squad. He has
a string of eight straight games
with 10 or more tackles in a game.
The native of Fairfield,
Alabama, was named the Gateway
Football Conference Player of the
Week on Sunday, the third time this
season a Penguin has won that award. |
