SOUTHAMPTON, Pa. -Youngstown State linebacker Tim Johnson (Fairfield, Ala.) was named The Sports Network Division I-AA Defensive Player of the Week due to his stellar effort in the Penguins’ 29-20 upset of No. 7 Northern Iowa.
Johnson was a major factor in the Youngstown State defense holding Northern Iowa to 17 points below its scoring average.
The junior linebacker made a team-high 12 tackles. He also contributed by breaking up two passes and intercepting another. The interception ended a late fourth quarter drive by UNI.
