Football: Tressel Named Ohio College Coach of the Year
COLUMBUS, OH - Youngstown State
University head football coach Jim
Tressel was named the Ohio College
Coach of the Year by the Columbus
Dispatch.
Tressel, who guided the Penguins to their sixth national
championship appearance in nine
season, received 57 total votes,
including 10 of the 32 first-place
votes. Larry Kehres of Mount Union
was second with 43 votes and Wally
Hood of Otterbein was third.
It was the sixth time in his 14 seasons that Tressel has won
this award. He won it in 1997, 1994,
1991, 1990 and 1989.
Tressel guided the Penguins to a 12-3 mark and a 5-1 record
in the Gateway Football Conference.
It was the 11th winning
season in Tressel=s 14 seasons at
YSU. He owns an outstanding 126-54-2
mark as head coach of the Penguins.
