Football: Shirey and Brown Named GFC Players of the Week
YOUNGSTOWN,
OH - Running back Adrian Brown (Sr., Canton,
OH) and center Ian Shirey
(Sr.-RS, Slippery Rock, PA) were
named the Gateway Football
Conference’s Offensive and Offensive
Lineman of the Week, respectively.
Brown led the Penguins to a 43-37 overtime win at Southern
Illinois this past weekend. He
rushed for a career-high 198 yards
and had three touchdowns, including
the game-winning 12-yard jaunt in
the overtime. Brown has rushed for
six touchdowns in the past two
games, both victories by YSU. The
198 yards are the most by a Gateway
player this year.
Shirey was one of the reasons for the YSU win. He graded out
at 84 percent, and his primary
assignment was SIU’s Tavita Tovio --
one of the best defensive linemen in
the conference. The Penguins rushed
for a season-best 295 yards in the
win, and they scored on every
possession in the second half and
overtime. |
