Football: Two Guins Earn Preseason
All-America Honors
LANGHORNE, PA- Seniors Dwtye Smiley (Sr., Kent, OH)
and Ian Shirey (Sr., Slippery
Rock, PA) were named to the
TEAMLINK.COM 1999 Preseason
All-America team released on
Wednesday.
Smiley, a first-team All-Gateway performer and second-team
All-American last year, was named a
second-team All-American after
coming off his best season in a
Penguin uniform. Last season, Smiley
recorded a career-best 124 tackles
and was second on the team with two
interceptions. Smiley is slated to
be the team’s starting strong
safety.
Shirey, also a All-Gateway performer, was named the
third-team center on the
TEAMLINK.COM squad. The native of
Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, has
started 33 straight games at center
and will be the team’s 1999 starter
at center.
The Penguins will hold their first jersey scrimmage today at
5:00 p.m. at Stambaugh Stadium. |
