Football: Brown Leads YSU to Sixth
Straight Win
Cedar Falls, Iowa --
The Youngstown State football team won its sixth
straight game and moved to 4-0 in
the Gateway Conference with a 29-20
win over Northern Iowa in the UNI
Dome on Saturday.
Senior tailback Adrian Brown rushed 29 times for 147 yards
and two touchdowns to keep the
Penguins in a first-place tie with
Illinois State. His 67-yard
touchdown run with 3:59 left in the
fourth quarter iced the win.
After trailing 7-0, the Penguins scored 13 unanswered points
on a Brown one-yard run and two
field goals by senior placekicker
Mark Griffith.
The Panthers took a 19-14 lead on a 30-yard pass from
quarterback Ryan Helming to Mike
Furrey before YSU responded with a
36-yard touchdown run from freshman
Ime Akpan to put YSU ahead, 19-14.
UNI
went ahead 20-19 on a 26-yard
touchdown pass, but the Penguins
took a 22-20 lead on Griffith’s
third field goal before Brown’s long
run iced the game.
Youngstown State plays for what most likely will be the
Gateway Conference Championship
against Illinois State next Saturday
at Stambaugh Stadium. |
