Football: Nine Players Earn All-Gateway Accolades
St. Louis, Mo. -- Offensive Tackle Pat Crummey,
linebacker Tim Johnson and defensive
lineman Matt Mechling were named
first-team All-Gateway Conference on
Wednesday in a voting by the
league's coaches and media. A total
of nine Penguins made the league's
all-conference teams.
Junior quarterback Jeff Ryan was named the league's
second-team signal caller behind
Northern Iowa's Ryan Helming.
Defensive back's Ed Blizzard and
Bruce Hightower were selected to the
second-team defense.
Senior punter Troy LeFever was named honorable-mention
all-conference. Also earning
honorable-mention all-league honors
were senior defensive lineman
Montrail Thomas and junior center
Dave Tesinarz.
Western Illinois swept the individual awards with Charles
Tharp named the league's offensive
player of the year, Edgerton
Hartwell earning the conference
defensive player-of-the-year award
for the second straight year and
Coach Don Patterson earning the
Bruce Craddock Coach-of-the-Year
honor.
