Football:
Jeff Ryan Earns League Player-of-the-Week Honors
St. Louis, Mo. --
Youngstown State quarterback Jeff Ryan was named the
Gateway Football Conference’s
Offensive Player of the Week and
Illinois State’s Tim Beshel was
named the league’s Defensive Player
of the Week.
Ryan threw for 194 yards and tied a school record with four
touchdown passes in YSU’s 42-35
double overtime win against Hofstra.
He also rushed for a career-best 125
yards on 18 carries. Ryan now has 40
career touchdown passes to tie for
the school record held by Trenton
Lykes and Keith Snoddy.
Beshel earned the defensive honor for returning a fumble 49
yards for a touchdown in a 25-18
upset of third-ranked Western
Illinois. Beshel’s game-winning
score came with 3:49 left in the
game. |
