Football: YSU Ends Season Among Top
10 in I-AA Attendance
Youngstown -- The
Youngstown State University football
program placed third in the nation
in total home attendance (114,231)
and ranked 10th among 122 NCAA I-AA
schools in average per game
attendance, 16,319 during the 2001
regular season. The attendance
figures were released recently by
the NCAA.
YSU’s 16,319 per game average came over the course of seven
home games this fall, in which YSU
posted a 6-1 record at Stambaugh
Stadium under first-year Head Coach
Jon Heacock.
"I have said from day one, our fans at YSU make the
difference for this football team,"
Heacock said. "They are part of our
football family and we are certainly
fortunate to have their support,
home and away."
The 2001 average marked the fourth-highest-per-game season
attendance figure in the 61-year
history of YSU football and led the
Gateway Football Conference for the
fifth consecutive season. YSU’s
highest per game attendance mark was
set during the 2000 season when the
Penguins averaged 18,109 fans over
six games - ranking eighth in NCAA
I-AA attendance last year. |
