Football: Mays First-Team, Seven Other Guins Earn
Honors
St. Louis, Mo. -- Senior tailback P.J. Mays was named
first-team All-Gateway Football Conference for the second straight season, the
league announced on Wednesday. Following Mays' first-team selection, seven other
Penguins were named to either the second team or chosen as honorable-mention
all-league.
Junior center Nick Roberts, senior defensive tackle Guy
Mazard, senior linebacker Jon Tekac and senior free safety Anthony Barone all
earned second-team all-conference accolades. Senior tight end John Schumacher,
senior wide receiver/return specialist Jerald Burley and senior strong safety
Russell Stuvaints all were named honorable-mention.
This is the first time since joining the Gateway that YSU had
just one member on the first team, but the four second-team picks are a school
record.
Western Illinois had eight first team selections followed by
Western Kentucky which had six first teamers. Both teams tied for the Gateway
title with 6-1 conference marks.
