P.J. Mays Concludes Impressive Career Against Samford
YSU senior tailback P.J. Mays is one of 18 Youngstown State seniors who will be appearing at Stambaugh Stadium for the final time on Nov. 23 when the Penguins play host to Samford. Mays, a native of Youngstown, transferred back home in 2000 after spending a year at Cincinnati where he made the Conference USA All-Freshmen Team.
Three years and 33 games later, Mays will finish his YSU career as one of the best tailbacks in school and Gateway Football Conference history. With one game to play, Mays is just two touchdowns shy of breaking the conference record for career touchdowns and three shy of setting the mark for rushing scores. He is also 167 yards shy of the school record for rushing yards in regular-season games only. Most, if not all, of his marks may never be equaled by a player who has a three-year career with the program.
Here is a look at some of the accomplishments of Mays' career.
