Football: Penguins Add Juco Transfer Matt Porter
Youngstown -- Youngstown State Head Coach Jon Heacock
announced that Matt Porter, a junior
college transfer, has signed a
national letter of intent to join
the Penguins football program and is
currently enrolled at YSU.
Porter, a 6-3, 255-pound defensive end, comes to YSU after
spending the past two seasons at
American River College in
Sacramento, Calif. He will have two
years of eligibility remaining
beginning this spring.
A native of Yuba City, Calif., Porter earned all-conference,
all-region and all-state honors at
American River College as a
sophomore. He was also named the
team's Defensive MVP. Prior to
attending American where he was
coached by Don Dillon, Porter
attended Nevada-Reno.
At Marysville High School for Coach Neil Stinson, Porter was
a first-team All-Golden Empire
selection and was the team's and the
area's Defensive Player of the Year.
He finished his senior season with
17 sacks, 35 tackles for losses and
85 tackles. As a junior, he was a
first-team all-league selection and
the team's lineman of the year. |
