Youngstown -- Youngstown State Head Coach Jon Heacock announced that Matt Porter, a junior college transfer, has signed a national letter of intent to join the Penguins football program and is currently enrolled at YSU.
Porter, a 6-3, 255-pound defensive end, comes to YSU after spending the past two seasons at American River College in Sacramento, Calif. He will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning this spring.
A native of Yuba City, Calif., Porter earned all-conference, all-region and all-state honors at American River College as a sophomore. He was also named the team's Defensive MVP. Prior to attending American where he was coached by Don Dillon, Porter attended Nevada-Reno.
At Marysville High School for Coach Neil Stinson, Porter was a first-team All-Golden Empire selection and was the team's and the area's Defensive Player of the Year. He finished his senior season with 17 sacks, 35 tackles for losses and 85 tackles. As a junior, he was a first-team all-league selection and the team's lineman of the year.
