Football: Coaches Announces Players of the Indiana State Game
Youngstown -- Three players who made big plays down the
stretch, sophomore quarterback Aaron
Marshall, junior defensive end Matt
Briggs and junior placekicker Nick
Terracina were named the Penguins'
players of the Indiana State
contest, the YSU Coaching Staff
announced on Tuesday.
Marshall came off the bench to rally Youngstown State to a
30-24 overtime victory at Indiana
State on Saturday. He completed
6-of-9 passes for 75 yards and
engineered three scoring drives,
including the winner in overtime.
Briggs had four tackles, but his
biggest play came when he forced and
recovered a Jake Schiff fumble in
overtime to stop the Sycamores'
possession. Terracina kicked a
42-yard field goal into a swirling
wind with 33 seconds remaining to
force the overtime.
Offensive guard Will Sanders, who did not start because of an
ankle injury, came on strong to earn
Jim Zdelar Offensive
Lineman-of-the-Game accolades, while
Justin Martin made his first career
interception en route to being named
the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive
Lineman of the Game. Martin's pick
set up a third-quarter touchdown by
Josh Cayson.
Earning scout team honors for their performances during the
week were quarterback Ryan
Wisecarver (offense), linebacker Ken
Kraft (defense) and strong safety
Tim Dewberry (special teams).
Marshall was named the Haines Family Player of the Game by
the road radio crew of Bob Hannon,
Dick Hartzell, Chad Krispinsky and
Mike Orto.
The Penguins are back in action this Saturday when they play
host to their annual Homecoming game
against Illinois State. Kickoff is
set for 4 p.m. |
