Football: Coaches Name SMS Players
of the Game
Youngstown -- Senior offensive lineman Will Sanders
(Offense), junior strong safety Mike
Bracken (Defense) and senior
cornerback Sherod Holmes (Special
Teams) were tabbed as YSU's Players
of the Game for their performances
against SMS, the Penguins coaching
staff announced on Tuesday.
Sanders helped pave the way for YSU's 201-yard rushing attack
by grading out at a season-best 85
percent, Bracken led the team with
seven total tackles and Holmes
blocked a punt, the first blocked
punt by the Penguins since November
2001. Holmes also earned the Wash On
Wheels/Derek Pixley Hit of the Week.
Redshirt freshman Pat Walker played and started in his first
game at offensive guard and was
named the Jim Zdelar Offensive
Lineman of the Game. Linebacker Joe
Juby, who recorded six solo tackles,
was the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive
Lineman of the Game.
Earning scout team accolades were redshirt freshman tight end
Max King (offense), freshman
linebacker Peter Berthold (defense)
and freshman strong safety Bob Perez
(special teams).
The Haines Family Player of the Game as selected by the YSU
radio crew was defensive lineman Ron
John-Finn.
In the contest, Youngstown State had a season-high 11 winning
performances.
The Penguins play host to No. 2 Western Illinois on Saturday
at Stambaugh Stadium. Kick off is
set for 4 p.m. |
