Football: Terracina Named National Player of the
Week
Westmont, Ill. --
Youngstown State junior placekicker Nick Terracina was one of three Division
I-AA Special Teams members to be
named National Players of the Week
on Tuesday by the Football Gazette.
Terracina broke the school record by
drilling a 56-yard field goal as
time expired in the first half of
YSU's 34-3 victory over Liberty. The
record had been previously held by
former NFL Pro Bowler Paul McFadden
and current St. Louis Rams kicker
Jeff Wilkins. McFadden made his
54-yard field goal off a tee in
September 1980 while Wilkins' boot
came in the UNI Dome in December
1992. Terracina wasn't done, as he
also kicked a 47-yarder into the
wind in the fourth quarter. He also
made four extra points in the
victory.
His kick is the longest in Division I-AA this season and
ranks second in Division I this year
behind Auburn's Philip Yost (57).
Other special teamers highlighted were kick returner Greg
Moss (Florida International) and
North Carolina A&T kicker Yonnick
Matthews. |
