Football: Four Penguins Named Academic All-Gateway
St. Louis, Mo. -- The Youngstown State football team
had four student-athletes named
Academic All-Gateway, the conference
announced on Monday.
Named to the second-team were junior tight end Shawn
Carlson (Boardman, Ohio) and
junior defensive end Justin
Scholes
(Mentor, Ohio) while sophomore
linebacker Marty Hutchinson
(Newton Falls, Ohio) and senior
placekicker Nick Terracina
(Lake Charles, La.) were tabbed
honorable-mention.
Scholes, who was a second-team CoSIDA District IV
All-Academic pick, has posted a 3.21
grade-point average in Mechanical
Engineering. For the season, he had
46 total tackles, including four
tackles for losses. Carlson, who has
a 3.37 grade-point average in
Exercise Science, caught 12 passes
for 152 yards and one touchdown in
2004.
Hutchinson finished the year second on the team in total
tackles with 76, including a
team-best 44 solo stops. Terracina
led the Penguins in scoring
finishing with 64 points. For the
year, he was 11-of-16 on field-goal
attempts and 31-of-31 on extra-point
kicks. |
