Penguins' Staff Announces Indiana State Award Winners
Youngstown -- Sophomore fullback Demetrius Ison,
senior cornerback Steve Reynolds and
redshirt freshman linebacker Jeff
Koval were named the Hill, Barth &
King Players of the Game for their
performances in YSU's 45-20 victory
over Indiana State on Saturday, the
coaching staff announced on Tuesday.
Ison was the Offensive Player of the Game after scoring two
touchdowns on Saturday. He had 39
yards rushing and a team-high 56
yards receiving on three catches.
Reynolds was named the Defensive
Player of the Game for returning an
interception 43 yards for a
touchdown in his final home game.
Koval recorded two tackles, both on
special teams during the contest to
be named the Special Teams Player of
the Game.
For the third time this season, sophomore center Ryan Jewell
was selected as the Jim Zdelar
Offensive Lineman of the Game while
Nate Baston earned his second honor
as the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive
Lineman of the Game.
Earning Scout Team Awards for their performances leading up
to the contest were redshirt
freshman fullback Joe Nicholson
(offense), freshman linebacker Mike
Marvin (defense) and redshirt
freshman Dustin Helle (special
teams).
Junior free safety Aaron Scales won the Derek Pixley W.O.W.
Hit of the Week for his tackle to
open the second half.
For the second consecutive week, junior tailback Josh Cayson
was named the Haines Family Player
of the Game by the YSU radio crew.
Cayson had 158 yards rushing and 242
all-purpose yards against the
Sycamores. His all-purpose totals
were the most by a Penguin since
Tamron Smith had 246 against Samford
in 1991.
YSU plays its final two games of the year on the road
beginning with a contest this
Saturday at Western Illinois.
