Coaches Announce Liberty Award Winners
    Youngstown -- Sophomore center John Foster (offense), senior defensive end Justin Martin (defense) and sophomore cornerback Jason Perry (special teams) were named the Hill Barth & King YSU Football Players of the Week by the Penguin coaching staff on Tuesday.
    Foster entered the game in the first quarter to replace the injured Dean Jewell at center. On Foster's first snap and play of the season, Monquantae Gibson rambled 53 yards for the Penguins first touchdown of the game. Later in the first quarter, Foster knocked down two Liberty defenders to spring Gibson on a 27-yard touchdown run.
    Martin had a solid all-around game recording four total tackles, including two for losses. Perry blocked a fourth-quarter field-goal attempt and finished with six total tackles. He also had a kickoff return for 25 yards.
    Junior offensive tackle John Bartos was named the Jim Zdelar Offensive Lineman of the Game while sophomore linebacker Marty Hutchinson was named the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive Lineman of the Game.
    Earning scout team accolades for their efforts throughout the week were redshirt freshman wide receiver Rory Berry (offense), freshman strong safety David Allen (defense) and freshman fullback Tony Norman (special teams).
    Senior cornerback Steve Reynolds was awarded the Derek Pixley/W.O.W. Hit of the Week. Sophomore tailback Monquantae Gibson, who was the Gateway Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, was named the Haines Family Player of the Game by the YSU radio crew.
    The Penguins return to practice this afternoon to continue preparations for their contest on Saturday at sixth-ranked Western Kentucky.
