Terracina Earns Honor After Solid Homecoming
Youngstown -- Senior Placekicker Nick Terracina had a strong showing in a return to his hometown of Lake Charles, La., in the Penguins 24-20 loss at McNeese State and for his efforts was named by the YSU coaching staff as the Hill Barth & King Special Teams Player of the Game.
Joining Terracina as Hill Barth & King Players of the Game were Ryan Jewell (offense) and Marty Hutchinson (defense).
Terracina had almost 100 supporters in the crowd on Saturday night and he did not disappoint. He made field goals of 41 and 32 yards in the game. His 41-yarder gave the Penguins a 20-17 lead in the fourth quarter. In the third, he executed a perfect surprise onside kick that set up the game-tying scoring drive.
Jewell was one of four offensive lineman to earn a winning performance from the coaching staff as YSU played just six lineman the entire game. Hutchinson had the best game of his career recording 11 tackles, including nine solo stops, two tackles for losses, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Pat Walker was named the Jim Zdelar Offensive Lineman of the Game while Justin Scholes was selected by the coaches as the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive Lineman of the Game.
Earning scout team honors for their performances during the week were freshman Brad Samsa (offense), freshman Ben Suran (defense) and freshman Chris Russo (special teams).
Freshman offensive guard Josh Tanner earned the W.O.W./Derek Pixley Hit of the Game.
Scholes was named the Haines Family Player of the Game by the YSU radio broadcast crew.
YSU returns home on Saturday to play host to Liberty. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Stambaugh Stadium.
