Bishop Highlights SIU Game Award Winners
Youngstown -- Sophomore punter Joe Bishop was named
the Hill, Barth & King Special Teams
Player of the Game following one of
the best all-around kicking efforts
in YSU history on Saturday. Junior
wide receiver Kyle Smith (offense)
and senior strong safety Mike
Bracken (defense) also earned Hill,
Barth & King Player-of-the-Game
awards.
Bishop averaged an impressive 44.6 yards per kick on a
career-best-tying nine attempts. His
401 total punting yards were the
fifth most in school history while
his first quarter boot of 70 yards
ranked as the fifth-longest kick in
YSU annuals.
Smith finished the contest by grabbing a season-high four
receptions for 64 yards. Bracken had
his first interception of the year
while making seven tackles.
Freshman offensive guard Josh Tanner was named the Jim Zdelar
Offensive Lineman of the Game while
defensive end Brandon Brown was
tabbed the Jermaine Hopkins
Defensive Lineman of the Game.
Earning scout team accolades for their efforts during the
week were redshirt freshman wide
receiver Dustin Helle (offense),
redshirt freshman defensive lineman
Leon Edwards (defense) and sophomore
wide receiver T.J. Peterson (special
teams).
Bishop was also selected as the Haines Family Player of the
Game by the Youngstown State radio
crew.
The Penguins resume preparations later this afternoon for
their contest on Saturday against
Northern Iowa. Kickoff for the
annual Homecoming contest is set for
4 p.m. |
