Underclassmen Dominate UNI Award Winners
Youngstown -- A group of three redshirt freshmen and two sophomores earned six performer-of-the-game awards for efforts in a 22-20 loss to UNI on Saturday.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Tom Zetts was named the Hill Barth & King Offensive Player of the Game, sophomore linebacker Marty Hutchinson was named the Hill Barth & King Defensive Player of the Game and redshirt freshman quarterback Vince Gliatta was named the Hill Barth & King Special Teams Player of the Game.
Zetts completed 16-of-22 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns against the Panthers, including a 73-yard scoring toss to Matt Rycarft. Hutchinson recorded 11 total tackles against the Panthers following up an impressive 12-tackle effort he had the week before against Southern Illinois.
Sophomore center Ryan Jewell was selected as the Jim Zdelar Offensive Lineman of the Game while redshirt freshman linebacker James Terry was named the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive Lineman of the Game. Terry recorded eight total tackles and forced and recovered a fumble that set up the Penguins touchdown that put them in front 20-19. Terry was also named the Haines Family Player of the Game as selected by the YSU radio crew.
Earning scout-team awards for their efforts throughout the week of preparation for UNI were junior free safety Ryan Wisecarver (offense), freshman defensive back Tom Krupko (defense) and freshman tailback Robert Norman (special teams).
YSU plays three of its final games on the road beginning with a 3:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) contest at Illinois State.
