YSU Announces Players of the WIU Game
Youngstown -- Sophomore tailback Monquantae Gibson,
sophomore linebacker Jeremiah Wright
and senior placekicker Nick
Terracina have been selected as the
Hill Barth & King Players for the
game for their performances last
Saturday in YSU's 34-9 victory at
Western Illinois.
Gibson was named the offensive performer of the game
after rushing for 167 yards on 25
carries. His 167 yards were just one
shy of his career high set against
McNeese State. Gibson also caught a
28-yard touchdown pass on a
fourth-and-seven play that put the
Penguins in front for good at 10-7.
Wright had a team-high six tackles, including five solo
stops on the afternoon. Terracina
kicked four extra points and made
two field goals -- 26 and 36 yards
-- on tough natural-grass field
conditions. Terracina has now made
44 consecutive PAT kicks, the
second-longest streak in school
history.
Senior offensive guard Norris Kennedy was named the Jim
Zdelar Offensive Lineman of the Game
as well as the Gateway Football
Conference's Offensive Lineman of
the Week. Kennedy earned his third
consecutive winning performance from
the YSU staff and graded out at 85
percent for the contest.
Junior defensive end Justin Scholes was named the
Jermaine Hopkins Defensive Lineman
of the Game. Scholes recorded four
total tackles and had a tackle for
loss.
Earning scout-team awards for their performances
leading up to the contest were
freshman center Brad Samsa
(offense), freshman free safety
David Allen (defense) and freshman
defensive back Nate Ward (special
teams).
Sophomore cornerback Justin Reams, who had two rushes
for eight yards in the game, earned
the W.O.W./Derek Pixley Hit of the
Game.
Gibson was selected as the Haines Family Player of the
Game by the
Youngstown
State
radio broadcast crew.
YSU concludes the 2004 season on Saturday at SMS.
Kickoff at Plaster Field is set for
2 p.m. Eastern time. |
