Football: Jewell, Scholes Named Second-Team Academic All-District
Youngstown -- Senior defensive end Justin Scholes
(Mentor, Ohio) and junior center
Ryan Jewell (Warren, Ohio) were
named ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA
Academic All-District selections,
the organization announced on
Thursday. Both individuals were
named to the second team for
District IV, which encompasses the
states of Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee,
Alabama and Kentucky.
Scholes, who was a second-team Academic All-District IV
selection in 2004, owns a 3.25
grade-point average as a Mechanical
Engineering major. In 10 games this
year, he has 40 total tackles,
including 23 solo stops. He leads
the with 10.5 tackles for 59 yards
in losses and 5.5 sacks for 51 yards
in losses. He has been credited with
a team-high three fumbles forced.
Against Southern Illinois last
Saturday, he had five solo stops,
two of which were sacks.
Jewell has started all 10 games at center this year and 28
games at the position during his
three-year career. On three
occasions in 2005 he has been named
the YSU Offensive Lineman of the
Game and he leads the unit having
earned a winning performance grade
four times. |
