Football: Brown, Ison, Bishop Earn HBK Player-of-the-Week Accolades

Youngstown Senior defensive end Brandon Brown, junior fullback Demetrius Ison and junior punter Joe Bishop were named the YSU Hill Barth & King Players of the Game for their performances in the 21-7 loss at UNI, the coaching staff announced on Tuesday.
Brown was named the HBK Defensive Player of the Game after playing a team-high 49 snaps on the defensive line during Saturday's contest. He was credited with a solo tackle, two assists and a tackle for loss. He had two quarterback pressures and in the second quarter intercepted the first pass of his YSU career.
Ison was selected as the HBK Offensive Player of the Game for his efforts on Saturday. He caught three passes for 14 yards and had a rush for a yard that picked up a first down. He also helped provide pass protection that allowed Penguin quarterbacks to pass for a season-high 273 yards during the game.
Bishop had one of the best games in his career and was named the HBK Special Teams Player of the Game. On five punts, he averaged 46 yards per boot and had a long of 53 yards. Two of his punts were downed inside the UNI five-yard line -- one at the eight and the other at five. He also had two kickoffs that both reached the end zone. He was named the Gateway Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts as well.
Freshman tight end Derrick Bush was named the Jim Zdelar Offensive Lineman of the Game. Bush caught the first touchdown pass of his career in the second quarter. Sophomore defensive tackle Greg Jacobs was named the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive Lineman of the Game against the Panthers. Jacobs was credited with two solo tackles, two assists and a tackle for loss by the coaching staff in 35 snaps.
Earning scout team honors for their play throughout the week were sophomore offensive lineman Matt Kishman (offense), redshirt freshman linebacker Nate Ward (defense) and junior wide receiver Almonzo Banks (special teams).
Bishop was also tabbed the Haines Family Player of the Game by the YSU radio broadcast crew.

In the national polls, the Penguins dropped to 15th in the Sports Network Top 25 Poll and fell to 17th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Southern Illinois, YSU's opponent this Saturday, moved up to fifth in both polls after beating then top-ranked Western Kentucky 31-20 last Thursday. The Penguins and Salukis are set to clash on Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern Time in Carbondale at McAndrew Field.
