Football: Tom Zetts Named To Division I-AA
Academic All-Star Team
Cleveland, Ohio -- Youngstown State University
sophomore quarterback Tom Zetts (Boardman, Ohio) was one of 44 individuals
selected to the Eighth Annual Division I-AA Athletic Directors Association
Academic All-Star Team, the Association announced this week.
Zetts, who was also a first-team Academic All-Gateway
selection, was one of five student-athletes from the Gateway Football Conference
to be named to the team.
Overall, 102 student-athletes from the 120 Division I-AA
football sponsoring schools were nominated. Each of the nominees were required
to have a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate
study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics
credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic
standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full
academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50
percent of the games played at his designated position.
As a sophomore in 2005, Zetts completed 154-of-258 passing
attempts (59.7 percent) for 1,949 yards. He had 14 touchdowns and threw just six
interceptions. In his career for the Penguins, he has completed 310-of-516
passes for 3,797 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Zetts is the first Penguin since punter Anthony Rozzo in 1999 to be
selected to the I-AA Academic All-Start Team. |
