Football: Four Penguins Earn Associated Press All-America Honors
The Youngstown State football team was well
represented on The Associated Press
All-America team with four
selections, the service announced on
Wednesday.
Senior tailback Marcus Mason
(Potomac, Md.) was named to the
first team, senior center Ryan
Jewell (Warren, Ohio) and senior
cornerback Jason Perry (Warrensville
Heights, Ohio) were named to the
second team while senior cornerback
Codera Jackson (Rochester, N.Y.) was
selected to the third team by the
AP.
The four selections are the most
since 1997 (two first and two second
teamers) and tied for the second
most in school history behind five
on the 1994 squad (three first team,
one second team and one third team).
Mason has already been named to the
Walter Camp Foundation and AFCA
All-America squads. Jewell was named
to the Walter Camp team as well.
Perry, finished with a team-high 11
pass breakups and tied for team-high
honors with Jackson with four
interceptions. Perry finished with
65 total tackles, including 32 solo
stops. He returned two interceptions
for touchdowns during the campaign.
Jackson finished with 61 total
tackles, including 39 solo stops. He
had four interceptions, three pass
breakups and two forced fumbles. |
