Tight End Louis
Irizarry Receives Gateway
All-Newcomer Accolades
St. Louis, Mo. --
Junior tight end Louis Irizarry
(Youngstown, Ohio) has been named to
the Gateway All-Newcomer Team, the
conference announced Wednesday.
Irizarry, who transferred to YSU from Ohio State, is one of
only two tight ends on the
all-newcomer squad. He joins 15
other Penguins who earned all-league
recognition on Tuesday.
Irizarry is one of only two YSU players to have caught a pass
in all 12 games and ranks third on
the team with 22 receptions. He
caught touchdown passes against
Maine and Southern Illinois, and he
came up with a big third-down catch
Saturday in YSU's victory over James
Madison.
Southern Illinois linebacker Brandin Jordan was named the
Gateway's Freshman of the Year while
running back Darian Williams of
Northern Iowa was named the Newcomer
of the Year. |
