Football: College Sporting News Tabs Three Penguins Tabbed Preseason All-American

     Chicago, Ill. -- Three Youngstown State football players were named to the College Sporting News 2007 NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-America Teams, the news service announced on Monday (July 16). Junior defensive tackle Mychal Savage was named to the first-team while senior linebacker James Terry and senior tight end Louis Irizarry were selected to the third-team.

    The Gateway Football Conference was well represented with a total of nine selections.

    Savage, a first-team All-Gateway pick as a sophomore, had an impressive campaign last year. He finished with 54 total tackles, including 5.5 for losses.

    Terry posted another strong campaign last year and is a two-time first-team All-Gateway pick. He had 76 tackles last year, including 10.5 for losses and 5.5 sacks.

    Irizarry, a 2006 Gateway Football Conference All-Newcomer Team pick, caught 25 passes for 304 yards and touchdowns in his first year with the program in 2006. 

    The 2007 Penguins will return in full force for fall camp on Sunday, August 5.
