Academic All-District Accolades

safety Bob Perez and senior
quarterback Tom Zetts were selected
to the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA)
Academic All-District squad, the
organization announced on Thursday.
Perez, who was a second-team
selection last season, is a
first-team All-District IV pick in
2007. A fifth-year senior, he owns a
3.84 grade-point average in
technical management.
For the first nine games this year,
Perez played safety before stepping
in at linebacker last Saturday at
Indiana State. For the season he has
17 total tackles, including 14 solo
stops.
Zetts, who was a second-team
Academic All-District selection
behind Louisville's Brian Brohm,
holds six school career records
entering Saturday's season finale
against Western Illinois.
This season, Zetts has completed
150-of-245 pass attempts for 1,547
yards and five touchdowns. His 61.2
completion percentage is a career
best and with four more completions
he will have completed at least 154
tosses in each of his four years as
a starter. He also has a career-low
six interceptions.
Perez will now be placed on the
national ballot with a chance to
earn Academic All-America honors. He
is the first Penguin to be tabbed
first-team Academic All-District
since Scott Thiessen in 2003.
Thiessen was a first-team Academic
All-America selection that year.
District IV encompasses the schools
in the states of Ohio, Michigan,
Tennessee and Kentucky. |
