Tom
Zetts, Bob Perez Represent YSU on
NACDA FCS All-Star Team
Cleveland, Ohio – Senior
quarterback Tom Zetts and senior
strong safety Bob Perez were named
to the NACDA FCS ADs Association
Academic All-Star Team, the
organization announced on Friday.
Joining Zetts and Perez on the
51-player team from the Gateway
Conference was Western Illinois
senior linebacker Travis Cherry.
Zetts is a three-time selection
while Perez earned the honor for the
first time in his career. Zetts was
a three-time first-team Gateway
All-Academic selection and as a
senior was a second-team Academic
all-district pick. Perez was a
two-time Gateway All-Academic pick
and a first-team all-district
selection as a senior.
It is the second straight year that
Youngstown State has placed two
players on the All-Star team. In
2006, Zetts and Ryan Jewell made the
squad.
Football
players from all Football
Championship Subdivision
institutions are eligible for the
team. Each of the nominees were
required to have a minimum grade
point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00
scale) in undergraduate study and
have been a starter or key player
with legitimate athletics
credentials. He must have reached
his second year of athletics and
academic standing at the nominated
institution and have completed a
minimum of one full academic year at
the nominated institution. He must
also have participated in 50 percent
of the games played at his
designated position.
As fifth-year seniors, Perez owns a
3.84 grade-point average while Zetts
owns a 3.68 GPA.
