Football: Horne, Gliatta, Wicks Earn HBK Player-of-the-Game Honors

    Junior wide receiver Da'Michael Horne, senior strong safety Vince Gliatta, and sophomore defensive back Lenny Wicks were named the Hill Barth & King YSU Players of the Game for their performances against Ohio State.

    Senior offensive guard Josh Tanner was named the Jim Zdelar Offensive Lineman of the Game while redshirt freshman Torrance Nicholson was tabbed the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive Lineman of the Game.

    Horne caught a career-high three passes for 37 yards, including a career-long 25-yarder to earn Offensive Player-of-the-Game honors.

    Gliatta had an impressive performance finishing with 11 tackles, including three tackles for losses, a sack for a nine-yard loss and a forced fumble to be named the Defensive Player-of-the-Game.

    Wicks was named the Special Teams Player of the Game, finishing with five total tackles in the contest.

    Tanner was one of two offensive linemen to play all 54 offensive snaps (Brian Mellott was the other) against the Buckeyes. He finished with a team-high grade of 77 percent for the contest.

    Nicholson, a Columbus native, playing in his first game, had a solid performance. He finished with two tackles, including a seven-yard sack of OSU quarterback Todd Boeckman in the second quarter.

    Earning scout team honors for the week were freshman tailback Josh Lee (offense), freshman linebacker John Sasson (defense) and redshirt freshman linebacker Andrew Billet (special teams).

    Gliatta was the recipient of the W.O.W./Derek Pixley Hit of the Game for his third-quarter hit on Boeckman that caused a fumble.

    Tanner was also the recipient of the Wachovia Leadership Award.

    In the Sports Network poll, the Penguins dropped one spot from fifth to sixth following the 38-6 defeat at Ohio State.

    YSU returns to action this Saturday when it takes on South Dakota State. Kickoff for the home opener is set for 6 p.m.
