Tabbed National Defensive Player of
the Week
Philadelphia, Pa. –
Junior defensive tackle Mychal
Savage (Hartsdale, N.Y) was named
The Sports Network's National
Defensive Player of the Week for his
impressive performance in the
Penguins' 31-24 victory over Western
Illinois last Saturday.
Savage came through with a
career-high 12 tackles, including
nine solo stops, with two sacks and
two fumble recoveries. Savage also contributed
two quarterback hurries while
playing every snap of the game on
defense. His sacks
were for 11 yards in losses and his
two fumble recoveries set up
touchdowns for Youngstown State.
Tennessee-Martin running back Donald
Chapman and Dayton quarterback Kevin
Hoyng were named the national
offensive players of the week by the
service while Wofford freshman Sean
Lees was tabbed the Special Teams
Player of the Week.
In the Sports Network poll, YSU
moved up from 21st to 17th while in
the FCS Coaches Poll, the Penguins
now reside in a tie for 15th place
with Eastern Washington after being
ranked 20th last week. |
