Football: Williams,
Gliatta, Nowicki Earn
Player-of-the-Game Honors Against
SIU

Junior wide receiver Ferlando
Williams, senior strong safety Vince
Gliatta and sophomore punter Ben
Nowicki were named Youngstown
State’s Hill Barth & King Players
for the Game against Southern
Illinois.
Williams, the HBK Offensive Player
of the Game, had career highs in
rushing attempts, rushing yardage,
receptions and receiving yards.
Williams had 15 carries for 87 yards
while scoring the Guins’ two
touchdowns against the Salukis. He
had seven receptions for 43 as well.
Gliatta, the HBK Defensive Player of
the Game, was credited with eight
total tackles, including six solos.
He had two tackles for losses in the
game.
Nowicki, the HBK Special Teams
Player of the Game, had four punts
during the contest for an average of
46.8 per boot. He had a long of 56
while placing two kicks inside the
20-yard line.
Williams (Stony Brook) and Gliatta
(Ohio State) each earned his second
HBK Award for the season.
Junior offensive tackle Brad Samsa
was named the Jim Zdelar Offensive
Lineman of the Game. Samsa was one
of two players to earn a winning
performance and picked up his third
Offensive Lineman of the Game award
this season.
Redshirt freshman Torrance Nicholson
was named the Jermaine Hopkins
Defensive Lineman of the Game for
the second time this season (Ohio
State). Nicholson had five total
tackles, including four solo stops
against the Salukis.
Earning accolades for their work on
scout teams during the week were
redshirt freshman offensive lineman
Rob Fernback (offense), sophomore
defensive lineman Roger Gillum
(defense) and freshman linebacker
David Rach (special teams.
Williams also earned Haines Family
Player-of-the-Game honors from the
YSU radio broadcast crew of Bob
Hannon, Dick Hartzell, Dave Sess and
Mike Orto.
Gliatta was selected as the
recipient of the Wachovia Leadership
Award.
In the national polls, the Penguins
dropped to 12th in The Sports
Network Poll and 13th in the FCS
Coaches Poll.
YSU is back in action on Saturday
when it takes on Southern Utah at
Stambaugh Stadium. Kickoff is set
for 4 p.m. |
