Football: Williams, Chenault, Ross Earn Player-of-the-Game Honors vs.
Stony Brook

Players-of-the-Game accolades from
the coaching staff for their
performance last Saturday in the
42-6 victory over Stony Brook.
Sophomore center Brian Mellott was
named the Jim Zdelar Offensive
Lineman of the Game while senior
linebacker James Terry was tabbed
the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive
Lineman of the Game.
Williams had an impressive game
scoring three touchdowns, two
receiving and one rushing against
SBU. He finished the contest with
four receptions for 68 yards while
running the ball twice for 32 yards.
Chenault was named the Gateway's Defensive Player of the Week
as well for his efforts. Against the
Seawolves he had five total tackles,
a forced fumble and an interception.
Ross was named the HBK Special Teams Player of the Game. Ross
finished with four tackles in the
contest, including three solos.
Three of his tackles came on Stephen
Blose kickoffs.
Mellott was also named the Gateway
Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Mellot played all 72 snaps at center
and for the second consecutive week
earned a winning grade from the
coaching staff.
Terry finished with five total
tackles in the contest. He had a
sack for a nine-yard loss as well as
another tackle for loss. He snatched
his third career interception and
had two quarterback hurries.
Earning scout-team honors for their
roles at practice during the week
were freshman wide receiver Dionte
Snow (offense), freshman defensive
lineman Brad Miller (defense) and
freshman wide receiver Kamryn Keys
(special teams).
Terry was also the recipient of the
Haines Family Player of the Game
honor from the YSU broadcast crew.
Senior linebacker and team captain Jeremiah Wright earned the
Wachovia Leadership Award for his
contributions during the game and
throughout the week. Against Stony
Brook he had 11 tackles, including
five solos.
In the national polls, the Penguins held steady at No. 7 in
the FCS Coaches Poll, but feel from
sixth to ninth in The Sports Network
weekly top 25.
Youngstown
State (2-1) plays its third straight
home game this Saturday against Lock
Haven (0-3). Kickoff for the contest
between the Penguins and the
Division II Bald Eagles is set for 4
p.m. |
