Football: Tom Zetts,
Torrance Nicholson, Todd Rowan Named HBK
Players of the Game
Youngstown – Senior
quarterback Tom Zetts, redshirt
freshman Torrance Nicholson and
sophomore quarterback/holder Todd
Rowan were named the Hill Barth &
King Players of the Game for their
performances in the narrow 23-22
victory over Southern Utah last
Saturday.
Zetts was named
the HBK Offensive Player of the
Game. Zetts, who was making his
school-record 43rd start at
quarterback, completed 15-of-26
passes for 164 yards while
engineering the fifth
fourth-quarterback win of his
career.
Nicholson was named the HBK
Defensive Player of the Game. He
played 62 snaps and came up with a
fumble recovery at the SUU two-yard
line to set up the Guins’ first
touchdown of the game. He was
credited with eight total tackles,
including five solos. He also had a
sack for 10-yard loss.
Rowan was tabbed the HBK Special
Teams Player of the Game. A holder
on all placement kicks, Rowan
contributed to three Brian Palmer
field goals and two extra points,
all big factors in the one-point
contest.
Junior tight end Derrick Bush was
named the Jim Zdelar Offensive
Lineman of the Game. Bush caught
three passes for 26 yards in the
contest. He participated in 53 plays
earning an 80 percent grade from the
coaching staff.
Senior linebacker James Terry was
selected as the Jermaine Hopkins
Defensive Lineman of the Game. Terry
played a defense-high 73 snaps in
the contest against the
Thunderbirds. He was credited with
10 total tackles, including seven
solo stops. He also had two tackles
for losses.
Earning accolades as Scout Team
Players of the Week were freshman
wide receiver Kamryn Keys (offense),
freshman defensive tackle Joshua
Myers (defense) and junior
cornerback Tony Kavouras (special
teams).
Junior wide receiver Ferlando
Williams was the recipient of the
W.O.W./Derek Pixley Hit of the Week.
Nicholson was also tabbed the Haines
Family Player of the Game by the YSU
radio broadcast crew.
Fifth-year senior wide receiver
Dustin Helle was the honoree as the
Wachovia Leadership Award Winner.
Helle played 13 snaps against the
Thunderbirds.
The 12th-ranked Penguins return to
action on Saturday when they play
host to Illinois State in the annual
Homecoming tilt. Kickoff for the
contest is set for 4 p.m. |
