Football: Bush,
Terry, Perez Earn HBK Awards For
Performances At UNI
Youngstown – Junior tight end
Derrick Bush, senior linebacker
James Terry and senior safety Bob
Perez were named the Hill Barth &
King Players of the Game for their
performances against UNI on
Saturday.
Bush was named the Hill Barth & King
Offensive Player of the Game. He
caught four passes for a career-best
59 yards. Bush caught a 28-yard
touchdown pass from Tom Zetts in the
first quarter. It was Bush's second
career touchdown reception, his
other came at the UNI Dome in 2005.
Terry was tabbed the Hill Barth &
King Defensive Player of the Game.
Terry was credited with six total
tackles, including four solos. He
also had a sack for two-yard loss.
Perez was selected as the Hill Barth
& King Special Teams Player of the
Game. Perez had three total tackles
with two coming on kickoff coverage.
He also tipped a first-quarter punt.
Senior tight end Louis Irizarry was
selected as the Jim Zdelar Offensive
Lineman of the Game. Irizarry caught
five passes for 48 yards against
UNI.
Senior defensive end Blake Halverson
was tabbed the Jermaine Hopkins
Defensive Lineman of the Game.
Halverson, who had missed the
previous two games because of an
injury, played on 25 snaps against
the Panthers. He had two total
tackles, including a sack for a
10-yard loss.
Earning accolades for the work
during the week as Scout Team
Players of the Week were freshman
tight end Patrick Bellish (offense),
freshman tight end/defensive tackle
Brian McLaughlin (defense) and
sophomore cornerback Andre Elliott
(special teams).
For the second consecutive week and
fourth time this season senior
strong safety Vince Gliatta was the
recipient of the W.O.W./Derek Pixley
Hit of the Week.
Terry was named the Haines Family
Player of the Game by the YSU radio
broadcast crew. A team captain, he
was also the recipient of the
Wachovia Securities Leadership
Award.
YSU will look to snap a two-game
losing streak this Saturday when
they travel to Indiana State.
Kickoff at Memorial Stadium in Terre
Haute, Ind., is set for noon. |
