Stephen Blose, Brian Mellott Earn
CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors
Youngstown – Sophomore
placekicker Stephen Blose (Erie,
Pa.) was named ESPN The Magazine first-team
All-Academic District IV and junior
offensive lineman/tight end Brian Mellott (Austintown, Ohio) was named
to the second-team, the College
Sports Information Directors of
America announced on Thursday.
Blose handles kickoff duties for the
Penguins. In 2008, he has kicked off
40 times for an average of 58.2 per
kickoff. Blose owns a 4.00
grade-point average in Middle
Childhood Education.
Mellott has played both offensive
lineman and tight end throughout the
season. He has played in all 10
games, starting twice. An active
member within the community, he owns
a 3.96 GPA as a Business Marketing
major.
As a first-team all-district
selection, Blose is now eligible for
All-America honors. The 2008 CoSIDA
Academic All-America Football Team
will be announced on Nov. 25.
It marks the second straight year
YSU has had a student-athlete named
first-team academic all-district.
Last year, safety Bob Perez was the
Guins' first first-team selection
since 2003.
District IV encompasses Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee and
Kentucky.
