Football: Guins Work
Hard On First Day of Fall Camp; Much
More Lies Ahead
Youngstown – The
Youngstown State football team
opened fall camp with two practices
on a Thursday at Stambaugh Stadium
as the squad began to get acquainted
with one another.
Overall, 19 players were
participating in their first
practice at YSU while another four
took part in their initial fall
workout as a member of the squad
after joining the program in the
spring.
The newcomers and some veterans,
worked out in the morning under
sunny skies. The quarterbacks in the
morning session -- Kurt Hess and
Gannon Hulea -- each made some
strong throws, while the two
incoming tailbacks -- Torrian Pace
and Jamaine Cook -- looked
impressive.
The afternoon workout featured a
little more intensity with the
veterans taking the field. The lone
player in the afternoon camp who was
participating in his first fall
practice was linebacker Taylor Hill.
All three returning quarterbacks as
well as tailbacks Kevin Smith,
Jabari Scott and Dana Brown took
part in drills.
Both practices went for 90 minutes
and featured a variety of team and
one-on-one situations. The groups
worked out in just helmets and
shorts.
The groups will be split for a
second straight day on Friday before
the team practices collectively for
the first time on Saturday. |
