Radio Show, TV Show Set to Debut This Week

Live Events Schedule | Penguin Vision

Youngstown -- This week marks the debut of the weekly YSU radio show "Penguin Playbook" on 570 WKBN and the weekly Football Television Show "Penguin Gameday" on WFMJ TV.

Penguin Playbook makes its 2009 debut on Monday night at 7. Coach Jon Heacock and radio play-by-play voice Bob Hannon will be live for one hour from the O'Charley's Restuarant location on South Avenue in Boardman. It will air every Monday night the remainder of the season, except next Monday, the show will be on Tuesday because of Labor Day.

Penguin Gameday makes season premiere on Wednesday live at 7:30 p.m. from the Canfield Fair when Coach Heacock joins Dana Balash for the show on WFMJ. Assistant Coach Jerry Olsavsky and senior offensive lineman Brian Mellott are scheduled to appear on the first show of the fall. Penguin Gameday will be streamed live on the internet at wfmj.com and through YSU's new video sight "PenguinVision".

The Penguin Gameday Television Show debuts on Wednesday, Sept. 2, live from the Canfield Fair.

Penguin Gameday will be reaired on Friday on Sports Time Ohio throughout the state. Please check local listings for time information.

On Thursday, YSU and Clear Channel Radio are teaming up to bring fans a special one-hour "Penguin Preview". Athletic Director Ron Strollo and Clear Channel Sports Director Jim Campbell will be on the air live from 6-7 p.m. discussing facility enhancements, the organization's plans for the 2009 season - for football and all sports -- and the future of the athletic department, including an update on the WATTS Center.

The official radio home of Penguins Athletics will continue to be 570 WKBN for the 2009 football and 2009-10 basketball seasons. The football broadcast team for 2009 will remain the same with Hannon joined by Coach Dick Hartzell and Dave Sess adding reports from the sidelines.

Chad Krispinsky will once again host a pregame tailgate show prior to all five home games and following most YSU games host the Fifth Quarter Show. Both will be on 570 WKBN.

This past Friday, the athletic department unveiled it's new PenguinVision website. PenguinVision offers fans a chance to view press conferences, listen to audio features and watch live YSU sporting events. Over the weekend, the Guins' soccer contests against Canisius and IPFW were some of the first broadcasts to be carried under the Horizon League Network's new format.

Starting in September, the YSU Telecommunications Department will help in the production of Penguins volleyball and swimming and meets. More information on those broadcasts will be available in the coming weeks.

As a reminder, the Press Conference luncheon's, normally held on Tuesday's in the fall, have been cancelled for the 2009 season.
