Football: Jarvis Richards, Mychal
Savage Granted Fifth Year by NCAA
Youngstown – Youngstown State
seniors Jarvis Richards and Mychal
Savage, who both suffered
season-ending injures during the
2008 football season, have had their
medical redshirt waiver approved and
will return to the program in the
fall. Both will not practice during
the spring, however, recovering from
their injuries.
Savage suffered a season-ending injury to his right shoulder
in last year’s opener at Ohio State
while Richards was lost for the year
after suffering a right knee injury
against North Dakota State in the
fourth game of a 12-game schedule.
In his career, Savage has played in 36 games, starting 32. He
has been credited with 116 total
tackles, 12.5 tackles for losses and
eight sacks. In 2007, he was named a
third-team American by The Sports
Network and is a first-team
all-conference pick.
Richards has played in 40 games, staring 12 times. He has 93
total tackles, including 69 solo
stops and two career interceptions.
In four games last season, he had 22
total tackles, including 14 solo
stops.
Neither Savage and Richards redshirted previously in their
YSU careers. |
