Dan
Kopp, a Youngstown native and YSU graduate, is in his third season as the
Director of Football Operations.
His duties with Youngstown State include the day-to-day operations of the
Football program as well as liaison duties with Academics, Compliance,
Administration and Facilities. He coordinates the Penguins' summer football
camps, the annual Spring Coaches Clinic and the football banquet. Dan is also in
charge of the Community Outreach program known as "Overtime" as well as the
team's summer jobs program.
Prior to stepping into the operations role, Dan spent a year as an Account
Executive for the Mahoning Valley Thunder, Youngstown’s Arena2 Football League
franchise.
For the Thunder, Dan helped generate corporate partnerships,
season ticket and individual ticket sales. In 2007, the front office earned the
AF2’s President’s Award for Best Overall Team Operations.
Dan’s father, John has nearly 40 years as a coach at several high schools in
the Valley. Dan spent four years coaching Football at Fitch High School before
moving into his position with the Thunder. During that time he was a substitute
teacher at Fitch.
Dan has private-sector business experience having worked at First Place Bank
for eight years as a Branch Manager/Loan Originator.
Dan’s family has deep roots in Football. His brother Neal is the head
football coach at Akron (OH) Coventry High School. Brian is the President of
DeBartolo Sports. Dan also has two sisters, Leslie and a twin, Julie. Dan’s
parents (John and Gerry) are also YSU graduates. His father played center for
legendary YSU coach "Dike" Beede.
