Jon Heacock Steps Down as Youngstown

Nine-year Youngstown State University
Head Football Coach Jon Heacock announced on Sunday that he is stepping down.
Heacock guided the program to a 60-44 record during his tenure, which was
highlighted by a trip to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision
playoff semifinals in 2006. A national search to replace Heacock will begin

Fargo, N.D. -- The Youngstown State football team
overcame an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit by scoring two touchdowns in the
final 5:13 to end the season on a memorable note with a 39-35 victory over North
Dakota State at the Fargodome on Saturday afternoon. Senior quarterback Brandon
Summers tossed two scoring passes in the fourth quarter to lead the

The Youngstown State football team (5-5 overall
and 3-4 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference) closes out the 2009 season
on Saturday with a trip to North Dakota State. Kickoff for just the program's
second trip to NDSU is set for 2 p.m. Eastern Time/1 p.m. Central Time. A win
over the Bison gives the Penguins a winning record and an even mark in MVFC

St. Louis, Mo. --
Youngstown State senior quarterback Brandon Summers was named the
Missouri Valley Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on
Sunday, the league office announced. Summers completed 25-of-39 passes
for a season-high 346 yards and two touchdowns against the Redbirds.

| Seniors Go Out on High Note, As Guins Top

The Youngstown State football
team pulled out all the stops against Illinois State on Saturday afternoon to
help send 12 seniors out in style with a 30-18 victory over the Redbirds at
Stambaugh Stadium. YSU tried two onside kicks, kicked three field goals and
faked a punt to offset a blocked punt and blocked field goal during an
entertaining and emotional Senior Day victory.
