Men’s Golf: Stocke Places Second, Guins Have Impressive Fourth-Place

Ohio -- Sophomore Ryan Stocke
posted the best finish of his career
placing second at the Dayton Spring
Invitational while the YSU men's
golf team had a season-high
fourth-place team finish out of 12
schools at the event which ended on
Tuesday at the NCR Golf Course.
Stocke, whose previous best finish
was third at the Wright State/Norm
Bullock Collegiate Classic last
April, placed one stroke behind
medalist John Powers of Bowling
Green. Stocke had rounds of 77, 76
and 74 to finish with a 227 while
Powers carded the low round on
Tuesday at 71 to place first.
Stocke's 74 was the fourth best
round on Tuesday. He finished with a
tournament high 34 pars.
As a team, the Penguins finished
with a three-round total of 943
(312-319-312). UW-Green Bay won the
event with a 925, however YSU placed
ahead of Horizon League members
Wright State (947), Cleveland State
(947) and Butler (968).
Other finishers for Youngstown State were junior Ross Beal
who was 16th with a 237 (74-80-83),
freshman Tim Morrow who placed 22nd
with a 239 (81-79-79), senior Jim
Powers who finished 39th at 244
(84-84-76) and junior Ryan McGraw
who was 51st with a 249 (80-86-83).
The Penguins return to action at the
First Energy Invitational beginning
on Saturday, April 28. The Horizon
League Tournament starts Monday,
April 30.
