Men’s Golf: Guins Climb to Sixth at Horizon League Championships
Lebanon, Ohio -- The
Youngstown State men’s golf team
moved up one spot to tie for sixth
place following the final round of
the Horizon League Championships on
Tuesday at Shaker Run Golf Course.
The Penguins entered the day
seventh, but were able to forge a
tie Wright State in the team
standings.
For the tournament, YSU carded a
three-round 941 following a
final-round score of 313 on Tuesday.
Wright State dropped to 941 for the
event while Butler finished ahead of
the Guins with a 931. Youngstown
State had rounds of 320 and 308 on
Monday entering final round in
seventh place.
The top individual finisher was
sophomore Ryan Stocke who came in
eighth place. Stocke had a
three-round total of 228 after
carding a 79 on Tuesday. He had
rounds of 78 and 71 on Monday. At
last year's HL Championships, Stocke
finished 12th.
Freshman Tim Morrow had an
impressive first showing at the
league meet firing a team-best round
of 76 on Tuesday. For the
tournament, Morrow had a 230 to
finish in a tie for 13th places
after carding rounds of 79 and 75 on
Monday.
Junior Ross Beal shot a final round
78 to finish with a 240 for the
tournament placing 27th, senior Jim
Powers had an 80 on Tuesday to
finish with a 243 for a 30th-place
finish and freshman Ryan Alpeter,
who improved each round, had an 83
on the final morning to finish with
a 258 and come in 35th.
YSU concludes the year this weekend
at the Penn State Rutherford
Intercollegiate.
