Men’s Golf:
Strong Second Round Gets YSU Within
Six at HL Tournament
Lebanon, Ohio --
After completing its lowest second
round at the Horizon League
Championships, the Youngstown State
men’s golf team is in third place,
only six strokes off the pace of
leader Cleveland State at Shaker Run
Golf Club.
Two freshmen Spenser Sulzener and Michael Turner are in the
top 10 after two rounds. Sulzener is
in seventh after carding a 148
(74-74). After firing a 149
(75-74), Michael Turner is in ninth.
Also competing in the Championships for the Guins are
sophomore Tim Morrow, junior Ryan
Stocke, and senior Ross Beal. Morrow
shot a two round total of 150
(75-75), good for 11th place. Stocke
is in 15th after his two round total
of 154 (81-73). Beal is 29th place
as he carded a two round total of
158 (158).
In the opening round, the Penguins had a 303 before
rebounding with a 296 to stay within
striking distance. YSU's best finish
at the league championships was
second in 2006, behind the Vikings.
Detroit is in second, three strokes
in front of the Guins.
The final round for the event is set to tee off at 8 a.m. on
Tuesday.
