Men’s Golf: Beal Smashes School Record to Win By Nine Strokes, YSU Second
    Fort Wayne, Ind.
-- Senior Ross Beal (Uniontown, Ohio) carded a school-record 63 during the final round of the IPFW Classic and finished with a school-record three-round score of 196 to win the IPFW Fall Classic at Deer Track Golf Course by nine shots.

    In the team competition, the Penguins finished second with a three-round 835 (274-280-281) coming up just three shots behind Detroit's 835. Loyola was third with an 841 while Cleveland State was fourth carding an 845.

    Beal had rounds of 65 and 68 on Monday and finished with a tournament-low tying round of 63 on Tuesday. Beal had 25 birdies during the tournament finishing with a 17-under-par total for the event. Loyola's Thomas Greene placed second with a 205, but shot a 63 during the second round on Monday. The 63 by Beal and Greene tied the course record.

    Beal became the first Penguin since Nate Komsa at the 2004 Horizon League Championships to earn a medalist finish.

    Beal wasn't the only Penguin to card exception numbers during the event.

    Junior Ryan Stocke tied for 10th with a three-round 209. Stocke had rounds of 69, 68 and 72 during the event. Sophomore Tim Morrow placed 12th with a 211 finishing with rounds of 69, 72 and 70.

    Senior Ryan McGraw placed 38th with a 220 (71-72-77) while junior Mitch Levengood was 50th with a 227 (75-76-76).

    Sophomore Ryan Alpeter, who was competing as an individual, also was impressive tying for 16th place with a three-round 213. After an opening round 80, Alpeter carded a 65 during Monday's second round and a 68 on Tuesday.   
    Youngstown State finishes the fall season next Monday and Tuesday at the Frank Landrey Invitational, hosted by Liberty in Amherst, Va.
