Women's Golf: Team Places Second, Jones Third at YSU Invite
    Salem, Ohio -- The Youngstown State women's golf team placed second and freshman Brittany Jones was third following the conclusion of the 2005 YSU Spring Invitational on Monday afternoon at Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.
    Jones, the first round leader, fired another 78 on Monday finishing with a two-round total of 156. She finished two shots behind Cleveland State's Kristen Obush and Butler's Lynnsey Showers who carded 154's for the event. Obush earned the victory in a playoff when she eagled the 10th hole. Showers had the low score of the day firing a 74 while Obush had a 75.
    Butler won the event with a 36-hole score of 639 (325-314) while YSU was second with a 659 (335-324). Cleveland State was third with a 665 (341-324), IPFW placed fourth with a 689 (352-337) and Walsh finished fifth with a 707 (359-348).
    The players took advantage of the ideal playing conditions as six individuals shot in the 70's -- four more than during Sunday's first round. Twenty three of the 32 competitors shot better on Monday as a group.
    YSU senior Gina Abruzzino shot a 78 on Monday and with an 85 on Sunday finished the tournament with a 163. Abruzzino tied freshman Felicia Ciotola who had an 83 on Monday following an 80 on Sunday at 163.
    Mallory Wyderka finished 12th after carding a 168 with rounds of 88 and 80. Bonnie Sherman and Kristen Albrecht tied for 19th finishing with identical rounds of 86 and 88 for a total of 174.

    The Penguins are next in action on May 2-3 at the Horizon League Championships in Galena, Ohio.
