Women's Golf: YSU Takes Second Place; Jones Top Finisher At Fifth
Carmel, Ind. -- The Youngstown State women's golf team
finished second at the 2006 Horizon
League Women's Golf Championships,
which concluded on Tuesday afternoon
at the Plum Creek Golf Club. Butler
won the team title for the second
consecutive year while taking the
top four individual finishes.
The Penguins finished with a three-round score of 979 after
firing a 326 on Tuesday. The
Bulldogs ran away with the team
crown finishing with an impressive
three-round total of 936. Loyola was
third (988), Detroit was fourth
(1,035) and Cleveland State placed
fifth (1,038).
Sophomore Brittany Jones was YSU's top finisher placing fifth
with a 241. Jones had a round of 80
on Tuesday after opening the
tournament with an 84 and a 77 on
Monday. Butler's Lynnsey Showers and
her sister Lauren Showers tied for
the first with three-round scores of
233. Lauren eventually won in a
playoff. The Bulldogs' Niki Garden
and Paige McCracken tied for third
at 239, just two strokes ahead of
Jones.
YSU sophomore Adrianna DiLonardo finished tied for sixth with
a 242 in her first appearance at the
league tournament. DiLonardo
finished the tournament with an 82
on Tuesday following rounds of 81
and 79 on Monday.
Junior Bonnie Sherman saved her best performance of the
tournament for her final round.
Sherman shot an 80 on Tuesday and
finished tied for 13th with a 250
for the championship. Tying Sherman
for 13th place was YSU junior
Felicia Ciotola. Ciotola finished
with a round of 86 on Tuesday after
rounds of 84 and 80 on the first
day.
Freshman Amanda Brindley also had her best round of the
tournament on Tuesday. Brindley
carded an 84 and finished tied for
19th with a 265 for the event. She
had rounds of 94 and 87 on Monday
for the Penguins. |
