Women’s Golf: Penguins
Finish Third, Brittany Jones Places
Fourth at HL Meet
Lebanon, Ohio -- The
Youngstown State women’s golf team
finished third at the Horizon League
Championships on Tuesday behind a
fourth-place finish by junior
Brittany Jones.
Jones tied Cleveland State's
Kathleen Broere for fourth place at
250. For the Championships, Jones
had rounds of 85, 82 and 83. Her 83
on Tuesday tied for the third-lowest
round of the final 18 holes.
Butler had the top three finishers
with Paige McCracken taking medalist
honors with a 246. Two Bulldogs tied
for second at 247.
For the tournament, YSU had a
three-round score of 1,029 after a
final round 345 allowed the Penguins
to break a third-place tie with
Cleveland State. Butler won the team
title with a 1,002 while Detroit was
second with a 1,011. The Vikings
were fourth at 1,032 while Loyola
placed fifth at 1,033.
It was Jones' best finish at the
Horizon League Championships in her
career. Last year she placed fifth
after finishing 10th as a freshman
in 2005.
Junior Felicia Ciotola slipped to
13th place after carding an 88 on
Tuesday. With rounds of 84 and 85 on
Monday she finished with a
three-round score of 257 for the
event.
Senior Bonnie Sherman and junior
Adrianna DiLonardo tied for 15th
place at 261. Sherman shot an
impressive 83 in her last collegiate
round to improved six spots from the
start of the day. She had rounds of
88 and 90 on Monday. DiLonardo
dropped from 11th place after a 91
on Tuesday. She shot rounds of 83
and 87 on Monday.
Freshman Brittany Stillwagon
finished 24th in her tournament
debut. Stillwagon had rounds of 90,
94 and 94 to finish with a 278 for
the event.
Youngstown State has finished third
or better since the Horizon League
began hosting a women's golf
tournament in 2003. After winning
the inaugural championship, the
Penguns have been second twice and
third twice. |
