Women's Golf: Penguins Named Horizon League Co-Players of the Week
Youngstown -- Penguin golfers, Mollie Boney and Katie
Rogner were named Horizon League co-Players of
the Week following the first week of the
fall season, the league office
announced on Wednesday.
Boney, a junior, and Rogner, a
freshman, each tallied 156-stroke
totals as Youngstown State claimed
the title at its own fall
invitational. Rogner paced the
Penguins in the opening round with a
76 and Boney capped the victory with
a team best final round of 76. The
two players were part of a four-way
tie for second place.
As a team, YSU picked up its first
tournament win since April 2005.
Last year, Boney had an overall average of 87.8
strokes per 18 holes. Notably, her lowest score a 77 at
the North/South Intercollegiate
Tournament. This was her
first career place in the top three
of any tournament she has competed
for YSU.
Rogner was competing in her first collegiate event.
Rogner, a freshman from Warren, Ohio
(Warren JFK) was a first team
All-Ohio selection in 2006, finished
fourth at the OHSAA State Division I
Golf Tournament. A four-time
team MVP, she was the Steel Valley
Conference medalist three years of
her career with JFK.
YSU will shoot for another
tournament crown September 23 and 24
at the St. Francis (Pa.) Fall
Invitational. |
